Binge Moderation
Indulgence is the satisfaction of a desire. Knowing your aspirations and fulfilling them is what we all try to do. It is when we lose control and excessively fulfill our desires, we begin to binge in activities. If we are the cup and water is the indulgence, we only have so much space to fill our cup. Exceeding the cup’s size, the water spills over, and we have a mess to clean up.
The mess can be many different things in life. Some of the most common forms of debauchery are drinking, drugs, and overeating. Binging anything in life can lead to a dependency and later addiction. Even suitable activities and desires can develop into addictions. Working out in the gym has significant benefits with staying healthy and in shape; however, binging working out can lead to injuries that may damage your body. There are a pace and method to indulging yourself.
Moderation is the reduction of excess and extremes. The famous Aesop fable, “The Hare and the Tortoise” is a story I recall from childhood many times.
The race is not always to the swift. Now I know that moderation in life is not appealing, and some even say it is the safe route. No extreme highs to enjoy, but no extreme lows to regret. What I say to that is even having intense moments in life can happen with moderation. They are just far and few in between compared to overindulging oneself. By definition, you will still experience these extremes moments moderately. My argument to the “live fast, die young” ideology is when you have fewer great moments over time, you will appreciate them more, and when you are at your worse, you learn and reflect more to avoid such pain.
Longevity is the defiance of eventual demise. Indulging in our desires longer is a more gratifying experience, for we defy the inevitable end of all good things.
