My Maze

As a child, responsibility is a word we hear grownups worry about. The older we become, our lives become more complicated. The complications in our world begin building a path of where life will go. Hobbies and enjoyed adventures become nostalgic memories, and regret is a heavier burden the further we march down our way. Sometimes we look back on our journey and discover our loss within ourselves. Maybe when it is too difficult, it is time to circle back and rediscover our inner kid.

There are three critical aspects of finding your younger self.

Fun is the key

Stress Less

Health is Wealth

Fun is the Key

The importance of fun is underrated by adults. The daily grind and hustle push “fun” to the backseat. Children are not burdened with tasks and due dates on work. Because of that, the priority of fun, fulfillment, and enjoyment is focused. The idea of having a good time versus striving or competing to get ahead of others is emphasized. Kids are living life and being present, while adults compete with themselves and others in the past and future they cannot control.

Stress Less

Adults worry about the roof over their heads, paying bills, and food on the table. Kids worry about being liked or not being bullied. It is easier to put perspective on these young stresses when we see parents burdened with much more significant concerns. When parents are stressed and put that on kids, it can plant the seed of stress or anxiety. When children detect that stress, it can educate them not to let it take control. The advantage is kids can escape more stressful circumstances with fewer repercussions.

Health is Wealth

Maybe it is less common these days, but going to school playgrounds, parks, and other outdoor adventures is quickly accessible when we are younger. Because we are so easily considered when more youthful, we are more susceptible to changing our environment enough to have stimulation and active lifestyles. We are easier to be entertained with the local park versus adults’ desire to go yonder to the Grand Canyon. Grownups pay to “play” at a gym when they can simply go to their local park and have an active activity. Kids chase a ball across a field, while young adults chase a career to “fulfill” a successful societal role. If your health is not first, you will never last in the marathon of life.

Circle back within yourself and write what you enjoyed doing as a kid. Try to go back to those golden times and rediscover yourself.
