Consistency
Persist in being your best all the time
The hardest thing about any discipline is being there day in and day out. Having a tunnel vision of goals supports the ability to stay the course. People have a hard time following a repetitive routine unless there are immediate consequences. If you show up late to work, there will be a situation where you can get in trouble. Losing pay or getting fired can motivate you to be on time. What if there is no accountability?
If you can not be accountable for your actions, then you get lost in your goals. Being consistent is the journey to the outcomes of your dreams. We all are excited about the goal line, but you have to get there first. The struggle is in between you and your goal. When you look at the horizon instead of where you are, you lose focus on the process of getting there.
Be Patient
“The race to be the best is only a marathon with yourself. ”
A habit I have that never changes is I wake up early. Early is too vague, so let’s focus on it a little more. I wake up between 5:45AM - 6:45AM. That’s it. Once I built that routine, then I moved on to another morning goal. I meditate each morning 20-30 minutes after waking up. What I am doing is building a foundational routine to establishing an intentional morning each day.
How can you be more consistent?
Focus on one goal at a time
Practice
Establish small victories
Be patient with yourself
Ignore the noise
Focus on one goal
Our brains will bounce from one idea to another goal. Define what you want to do. Think about that goal, breath that goal, and prioritize that goal. Clearing your mind before your day starts offers clarity to your outcome.
Practice
Focus does not come naturally. It is a practice of placing your goal in the front of the mind and having the intention to crossing that finish line. Being motivated is temporary. Establish self-discipline to exercise being consistent.
Small Victories
You need to carry kindness to yourself. Celebrating stepping stones to your ultimate victory gives you positive reinforcement to push forward. You may have days where you have self-doubt or sabotage yourself. Being kind to yourself and patting your own back helps to ignore those obstacles on the path.
Be Patient
You crawl before you walk and later run. You’re not an expert at everything. All great things take time and must go through their process. The race to be the best is only a marathon with yourself. Rushing through your journey defeats the purpose of the goal.
Ignore the noise
I use to be notoriously bad at this. With comparing to other’s journeys and worrying about the next person, I find myself stuck in place. Now, my priority is what I set out to do. I want others to find their goals. Don’t drain yourself with scrolling in apps or procrastinating your tasks. Overconsumption of anything can become quicksand on your path. Contribute to your journey to your goals.
This is not just about motivating you temporarily but invoking more profound thoughts into the self-realization of your purpose of being. Do the things you want to do. I trust that will lead you to peace and happiness.
